Igloo Widgets
Objective
Reduce the customization required to make the out of the box product match the needs of our customers
The Process
Research + Insights
A major challenge the product had was the amount of customization layered on top of our core platform. This made it difficult to launch new core features without breaking hundreds of customer instances. The was a multitiered project for the entire UX team. We conducted interviews, audits and customization reports to identify common trends and required from customers to migrate them from custom CSS to in-product configuration options.
Concept + Validation
After we identified the customizations we began making widgets to match these instances. We focused on converting Code-based buttons and link classes with links widget, banner/Call to action widget, slideshow, graphical blog. Each of these widgets went through extensive stress testing and iteration.
Final Results
We were able to eliminate over 20 custom classes that were hard to manage and maintain through widget development. This drastically reduced the time and complexity for launching our product - while customers were able to maintain their brand standards. We also gained internal release efficiency by eliminating the need to individually quality check customer instances with every release.
